A general view of the Tees Transporter Bridge between Middlesbrough and Port Clarence, which is supporting a gondola intended to carry vehicles and pedestrians across the River Tees. However, the bridge has been closed since 2019 due to safety concerns. Due to its age and the historic way in which it was engineered, the required inspections and structural assessments are extremely technical in nature. In January 2024, the Tees Valley Combined Authority Cabinet is approving a report that pledges GBP30m towards bringing the bridge back into operation. As of July 8, 2024, in Middlesbrough, England, repair work is still to begin
