The pond inside the bauxite quarry in Otranto, Apulia, on July 24, 2024. With the arrival of summer, the desire for the sea and relaxation is growing stronger among Italians and tourists from all over the world. However, this year, people are finding it quite a challenge to plan a beach holiday due to the price increases that are affecting not only Italy but also many other European destinations. The pandemic is greatly affecting the tourism sector, forcing many facilities to temporarily close or reduce their services. Now, with the resumption of activities, rates are being raised to try to recover the losses incurred in recent years. In this context of generalized price increases, Salento, one of the pearls of Italian tourism, is no exception. Although renowned for its picture-postcard beaches and crystal-clear sea, the Salento is experiencing a period of significant increases in the cost of beach services. Nevertheless, the Salento is remaining a fascinating destination, capable of offering unforgettable experiences even to those on a tight budget.

Wetlands cover only about 6% of the Earth's land surface, yet 40% of all plant and animal species live or breed in them, highlighting their critical ecological role. Contrary to the perception that wetlands are merely large bodies of water like ponds, rivers, or lakes, they can also be temporary water bodies formed in low-lying cultivated lands due to monsoon rains, attracting many migratory birds. However, the use of land fertilizers and pesticides poses a threat to these species. World Wetlands Day 2024 was celebrated on February 2nd, with the theme "Wetlands and Human Wellbeing." It was observed that in Kaliganj, West Bengal, India, on February 17, 2024, farmland became waterlogged, attracting migratory birds such as the Asian Openbill Stork (Anastomus oscitans) and the Black-winged Stilt (Himantopus himantopus), while people navigated the area in boats.
