People attend the Festa dos Tabuleiros (Festival of the trays) in Tomar, Portugal on July 9, 2023. The festival it's held every four years, is dedicated to the Holy Spirit and the tradition dates back at least to the 16th century, although its origin resides in the pagan rituals for the goddess Ceres. Girls from the different parishes of Tomar parade, helped from the sanme number of men, carrying the 'trays' adorned with colored paper flowers and bread for the streets of the city for a route of about 6 km. This years celebration had about 618 Tabuleiros participating and the city was visited from around 700.000 visitors.
