A Baya Weaver weaves its nest on the branches of a tree while a female inspects it in Kathmandu, Nepal, on May 30, 2026. These birds, known for their architectural skill in building nests from hay and grasses, are found across the Indian Subcontinent. The monsoon season marks their mating period, during which males construct nests designed to withstand rain and wind, while also providing a cooling system and protection from predators. The female inspects the nests and may accept the male's advances by approving the woven structure, leading to further construction and eventual breeding. Baya Weavers have a dull yellow color with black markings, resembling sparrows, but males become brighter with yellow and black markings during the breeding season. The birds' chirping can be heard by residents in the area.
