The walk was initiated by Anna Bieliaieva, who was joined by Mayor the Mayor of Utrecht Sharon Dijksma, Minister Liesje Schreinemacher and Ambassador Kononenko of Ukraine. The Ukrainian flag was wrapped around several participants as they walked to Jaarbeurs from the central railway station, which served as the end point for many refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine. They stopped in several spots on the way with banners having information about the people and their journey. An injured former soldier of the Ukrainian army joined the walk on a wheelchair. After the Walk of Hope, a program was held in Jaarbeurs, featuring speeches, Ukrainian music, and video messages from President Volodimir Zelensky and Prime Minister Mark Rutte. Hundreds of Ukrainians and Dutch people embarked on the Walk of Hope from the Central Station in Utrecht to Jaarbeurs to commemorate one year since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The walk was initiated by Anna Bieliaieva, who was joined by Mayor the Mayor of Utrecht Sharon Dijksma, Minister Liesje Schreinemacher and Ambassador Kononenko of Ukraine. The Ukrainian flag was wrapped around several participants as they walked to Jaarbeurs from the central railway station, which served as the end point for many refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine. They stopped in several spots on the way with banners having information about the people and their journey. An injured former soldier of the Ukrainian army joined the walk on a wheelchair. After the Walk of Hope, a program was held in Jaarbeurs, featuring speeches, Ukrainian music, and video messages from President Volodimir Zelensky and Prime Minister Mark Rutte. The exhibition floor had 25 meeting points in the hall symbolizing Ukrainian cities and regions. Also the Dutch railway NS allowed all Ukrainians to travel by train for free to attend the event. The national memorial meeting was organized by the Utrecht foundation Vital'nya. Utrecht the Netherlands on Friday 24 March 2023
