Figure of Lord Vinayagar (Lord Ganesh) adorns a small shrine at the Selva Sannidhi Murugan Temple (Selvachannithy Murugan Kovil) in Thondaimanaru, Jaffna, Sri Lanka. The temple complex is dedicated to Lord Murugan and according to the history, was attacked by the Buddhists who burnt the temple and its wooden chariots to the ground. Large banyan trees planted by Sri Lankan Buddhists can be seen growing around the temple.

Figure of Lord Vinayagar (Lord Ganesh) adorns a Hindu temple in Mullaitivu, Sri Lanka. This temple was known to have been frequented by Velupillai Prabhakaran, the deceased leader of the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) fighters. The temple was damaged during bombing by the Sri Lankan army during the civil war and is now being rebuilt.
