For more than 15 years, Kaczynski has led these monthly commemorations at Wawel. The ceremonies, approved by the Church hierarchy, remain closed to media coverage and the general public, attended only by PiS leaders and select invitees, and are accompanied by visible police and private security.

Krakow, Poland on April 10th, 2025. On 10 April 2010, a Tupolev Tu-154 aircraft of the Polish Air Force crashed near Smolensk, Russia, killing all 96 people on board. Among the victims were the President of Poland Lech Kaczyski and his wife Maria Kaczynska.
