31 October 2025

Nepali nurses working at a government hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal, on October 31, 2025, take part in a protest expressing solidarity with those demanding fair pay and benefits. In a phased manner, nurses from hospitals across the Himalayan nation stage protests demanding assurance of minimum salary, allowances, and benefits. Nurses working in government hospitals now come forward expressing solidarity with those demanding pay, allowances, and benefits equal to government standards. A 15-point demand is put forward by the Nursing Association. Their demands include implementing the Ministry of Health and Population's directive dated October 10, 2025, ensuring that the minimum remuneration of health workers is not lower than that of government employees, providing allowances for additional work, ending daily-wage employment, and paying salaries and allowances through the banking system. The protesting nurses also demand recognition of skilled nursing professionals, who have long been treated as laborers, to be formally recognized and managed under the Health Act.

A worker cleans the debris off the premises of the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation inside Singhadurbar, the administrative capital of Nepal, following the Gen-Z uprising on September 19, 2025. In the aftermath of the Gen-Z protests, insurance claims continue to rise, with preliminary claims standing at 20.70 billion, reflecting the scale of destruction during the September 8 and 9 agitations. According to records with the Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA), a total of 1,984 claims are filed by Thursday, almost all linked to private businesses and properties. With public structures uninsured, companies are spared from additional exposure except for government vehicles under third-party liability coverage. Some insurers face unprecedented pressure.

A wall with razor wire is at Nowa Huta Prison in Krakow, Poland, on August 27, 2025. Thanks to a partnership between Krakow's Municipal Greenery Authority and the Krakow Remand Prison, inmates cultivate vegetable gardens on prison grounds as part of an urban gardening program. The garden runs for three years in the women's ward, and since last year also in the men's ward, where since 2025 vegetables grow alongside flowers. In addition to gardening, inmates also take part in other projects such as building hedgehog houses and insect hotels. The initiative is designed to teach responsibility and care, while also providing meaningful ways to spend time. Participation is voluntary, and all harvests belong to those who work in the gardens.
