A common gallinule runs across the water to escape a nearby alligator at Green Cay Nature Center in Boynton Beach, Florida. Unlike most waterbirds, gallinules have long toes that allow them to walk on floating vegetation. The species is known for its loud, cackling calls that often echo through wetlands.

An American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis), colloquially referred to as a ''gator,'' swims towards a disturbance in the swamp looking for its next meal. The American alligator is an apex predator in swampy areas of the USA and can swim up to 32 kilometers per hour. Adult male American alligators measure 3.4 to 4.5 meters in length and can weigh up to 500 kilograms, with unverified sizes of up to 5.84 meters and weights of 1,000 kilograms.

The complex is an immigration detention facility located at the Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport inside Big Cypress National Preserve in Ochopee, Florida, United States. Announced in June 2025 by the Attorney General, James Uthmeier, and championed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, it is situated in the Everglades west of Miami. The name alludes to both the local reptile population and the former maximum-security Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary in San Francisco Bay, California.
