Relatives carry a dead body after performing rituals before cremation in a furnace inside a crematorium at Baruipur Panchayat area in South 24-Pargana district of Purandarpur Mahashamshan, about 39 km south of Kolkata, India, on November 20, 2024. Tumpa Das, age 29, has been in charge of the crematorium for the last 10 years after her father's death. This woman, a Dom, single-handedly handles the work traditionally dominated by men. From registering the names of the dead to cremation, the work of the furnace is managed by this young woman alone.
