28 May 2025

Thomas Brail, founder of the GNSA (National Group of Trees Watching), speaks to the press after the gathering. In Toulouse, France, on May 28, 2025, opponents of the planned A69 highway gather after the decision of the Cour d'Appel Administrative (Administrative Court of Appeal) of Toulouse, which greenlights the resumption of leveling works on the A69 highway. The Administrative Court of Toulouse decides on February 27 to suspend all works on the A69 project highway between Toulouse and Castres. NGE/Atosca files an appeal against this decision and asks the Court to let the works continue during the time the appeal is judged. Two senators and two MPs from the Tarn department propose a retroactive law to authorize the building of the A69, saying they want to bypass the decision of the Administrative Court of Toulouse. Atosca states that all leveling works have begun and that more than 70% of highway structures are completed. However, the leveling works and highway structure do not match the numbers given by Atosca. Additionally, several problems plague the work, such as water evacuation and protection of species. The main association, 'La Voie est Libre' (i.e., 'The Way is Free'), and opponents want the building of the highway to be stopped until all judicial decisions on the content are given. All expropriations for farmers are not cleared. Opponents of this project say that the reprofiling of the N126 will be sufficient for the 6,000 vehicles planned per day and would cost far less money. The A69 highway will cost EUR512 million (in 2018 euros without inflation) for 54 kilometers. More than 100 protected species and 400 hectares of agricultural fields will be destroyed.

12 February 2025

A woman holds a cardboard sign reading ''The Falcucci school stands with the C. family.'' The collective RESF (Reseau Education Sans Frontieres, or 'Education Network Without Borders'), along with trade unions (CGT and SUD) and the Human Rights League, organizes a gathering in front of the Prefecture of Occitania in Toulouse, France, on February 12, 2025, to alert passers-by and the Prefet about the difficult situation of children whose parents have no papers. They state that French laws make school mandatory regardless of the child's situation, as does the CEDH (European Convention of Human Rights). They collect signatures to present petitions to the Prefet, asking for these children to stay in France. RESF is a collective that includes several parents' associations such as FCPE, associations, unions (SUD, CGT), and NGOs (LDH, Human Rights League).

A protester holds a placard reading 'Vote is a right, check your inscription on electoral rolls'. Between 8,000 and 10,000 protesters march in Toulouse, France, on December 5, 2024, called by all trade unions except FO to protest against the new budget for France in 2025. Workers in public services see the waiting period for illness leave increase from one day to three, their pay while on illness leave cut by 10%, and all their bonuses removed. They primarily protest against the reduction of public services such as education, health, child protection, and public finances. The Barnier budget plans nearly EUR40 billion in cuts to public services. Some protesters want to remind President Macron that the first coalition elected in June in the French Parliament is the New Popular Front. The unions involved include CGT, CFDT, UNSA, FSU, Solidaires, CFE-CGC, and FA-FP. Similar protests take place elsewhere in France.
