Villagers collects water from catchment well on the Cipamingkis river, where the water continues to dry up due to drought in the summer, in Cibarusah sub-district, Bekasi Regency, West Java province, on August 15, 2023. The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has confirmed that the dry season may be drier and more intense than last year due to the El Nino phenomenon. The agency classifies West Java, Central Java, most of East Java, Yogyakarta, Bali and Nusa Tenggara as areas most vulnerable to extreme drought, or more than 60 days without rain.
