A boy representing death is getting dressed in a cellar in Tufara, Italy, on February 13, 2024. Shrove Tuesday is being celebrated according to tradition in Tufara, a small village in Molise. The Tufara carnival is renowned for its central figure, the Devil, a man who dons a papier-mache mask with a long tongue and a costume made of goat skins. The Devil of Tufara is making his appearance at the start of the festivities, screaming, running, and wriggling to frighten the spectators. This creature is always accompanied by two Elves and two Reapers, with whom he enjoys causing a ruckus and making noise in the village alleys.
