The Nyadran ritual is a tradition of cleaning and praying for their ancestors graves by the Javanese community. The Nyadran tradition began in the time of Sunan Kalijogo with his followers carrying out da'wah or the spreading of Islam, which long ago was not a religion known to the villagers although they would still gathered to pray to their ancestors. This ritual is not only an interaction with their ancestors, but a form of friendship between villagers who live at the foot of Mount Bromo and Semeru. After praying they eat together in the cemetery and they will celebrate by visiting their neighbor's houses.
