Henrique Gouveia e Melo, a Portuguese Presidential Election Candidate, visits street markets in Gondomar and Vila Nova de Gaia (Afurada), in Portugal, on January 15, 2026, as the official campaign for the presidency is under way. Henrique Gouveia e Melo, 65, is the former Chief of Staff of the Portuguese Navy. He gains wide recognition after leading the successful Task Force for the national COVID-19 vaccination plan, which leads him to be awarded the Military Order of Christ by the current ruling president, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
