The pharaoh ant (Monomorium pharaonis) is a small (2 mm) yellow or light brown, almost transparent ant notorious for being a major indoor nuisance pest, especially in hospitals. Pharaoh ants are a tropical species, but they also thrive in buildings almost anywhere, even in temperate regions provided central heating is present. A cryptogenic species, it has now been introduced to virtually every area of the world, including Europe, the Americas, Australasia and Southeast Asia. It is a major pest in the United States, Australia, and Europe. This species is polygynous--each colony contains many queens--leading to unique caste interactions and colony dynamics. This also allows the colony to fragment into bud colonies quickly. The pharaoh ant queen can lay hundreds of eggs in her lifetime. Most lay 10 to 12 eggs per batch in the early days of egg production and only four to seven eggs per batch later. The majority of pharaoh ant invasions occur during winter rainstorms and summer droughts. These ants are most likely to enter in a row to homes in cold, wet conditions - a typical winter in Delta. A smaller peak in the level of infestation occurs during hot, dry conditions typically in August and September. This photo was taken at Tehatta, West Bengal, India on September 6, 2023.

During a launch attempt on April 17, 2023, SpaceX loaded their enormous Starship launch vehicle with liquid methane and oxygen during its launch sequence at the company's South Texas facility near Brownsville, Texas. The surface of the booster's steel body can be seen chilled by the fuel within moments before the launch attempt was scrubbed due to a frozen valve within the booster.

SpaceX's first Starship Super Heavy launch was scrubbed Monday morning, April 17, 2023, at the company's South Texas facility near Brownsville, Texas and was instead utilized as a 2nd wet dress rehearsal for the enormous spacecraft. The team will reload propellant and try again on the next launch window on Thursday. Pictured: In the last few moments of Starship's first launch attempt countdown, heavy cryogenic venting can be seen from Starship's first and second stages on April 17, 2023.

After a successful wet dress rehearsal of Starship's fueling and prelaunch operations, SpaceX readies Booster 7 for its biggest static fire test yet: a test of all 33 of its booster's engines. The test is expected to follow a de-stack of the rocket stages around early February. Pictured: SpaceX's Starship production site, a series of rectangular bays and hangars for building Starship rockets, boosters, and cryogenic tanks, can be seen through the afternoon coastal haze at SpaceX's south Texas facility near Brownsville, Texas on January 24, 2023.
