A pair of women ride 'Boris Bikes' in warm spring sunshine beside the Serpentine lake in Hyde Park in London, England, on March 29, 2021. Lockdown restrictions were eased across England today, with the 'stay home' rule ended, groups of up to six allowed to meet outside, outdoor sports restarted and weddings with up to six people attending permitted to go ahead. Shops, hospitality and leisure businesses remain closed however, with the next relaxation of restrictions not due until April 12 at the earliest. Today's easing has meanwhile coincided with the first of a three-day 'mini-heatwave', with daytime temperatures in London forecast to rise above 20C until the latter half of this week.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson yesterday evening instigated an unprecedented UK 'lockdown' to combat the spread of the covid-19 coronavirus, instructing citizens not to leave their homes other than to buy essentials, for medical reasons and to provide care, to travel to and from work if 'absolutely necessary', and to exercise once a day. All shops selling non-essential goods were ordered to close. A further 87 people were today announced to have died from the coronavirus in the UK, bringing the total to 422.
