Aoshima is a small island surrounded by unique rock formations known as “oni no sentakuita (devil’s washboard),” with a circumference of around 1.5 kilometers. This island is where myths about love and sibling rivalry involving the great-grandson of the sun goddess Amaterasu, said to be the ancestor of the imperial family, are set. People were forbidden to enter the island until 1737, as it was worshipped as a holy place.
