On April 17, 2025, in Mexico City, Mexico, members of the Lomitos Club collective gather to offer help, care, and veterinary aesthetics to Don Jose Demetrio Trejo de la Rosa's pack of dogs. He has lived for 15 years in an underpass that was formerly a sewage canal, with 11 dogs of different ages. Their names are Forastero, Chaparra, Chapo, Volador, Flaca, Pinto, Rosi, Ojos, Coffee, Canelo, and Chino. Lomitos Club emerges as a self-managed project in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic and health emergency in the capital, due to the urgent need to rescue abandoned or injured dogs and place them with people or families who commit to responsible adoption under various protocols. The multidisciplinary team consists of Ana, Ashanti, Andrea, Paola, Aura, Jose Luis, Mari, Lulu, Monica, Coco Huaf (dog groomer), among other volunteers and others who join this cause. Jose Demetrio Trejo de la Rosa is a Jehovah's Witness originally from the state of Puebla. He claims to have been an immigrant because he moved to the United States 17 years ago in search of better living conditions but was deported for lacking the necessary documentation to prove his residency in that neighboring country. Since then, he lives with many dogs that have been abandoned in the area, offering them food, care, and love in his space to prevent them from being run over and abused. According to data from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, there are more than 29 million dogs and cats living on the streets in Mexico, making it the country with the highest number of homeless animals in all of Latin America.
