Indian soldiers maintain tight security at the entrance of the Rumtek Monastery in Rumtek, Sikkim, India, on June 06, 2010. Since 1992 the monastery has been the site of pitched battles between monks supporting different candidates for the 17th Karmapa. The Karmapa Charitable Trust was supporting Thaye Dorje and Tsurphu Labrang was supporting Ogyen Trinley Dorje. The Shamarpa who supports Trinley Dorje says a sniper tried to assassinate him at the monastery. Armed Indian soldiers still patrol the monastery to prevent violence. The site of the Rumtek Monastery was chosen because there is a river below and snow range of mountains in front and flowing streams and mountains behind and these are all auspicious qualities.

For six hours on Wednesday, Students of Viswa Bharati at West Bengal's Shantiniketan kept BJP Rajya Sabha MP Swapan Dasgupta locked up inside a building where he had delivered a lecture titled ''CAA 2019: Understanding and Interpretations''. The students were protesting the vice chancellor's decision to invite only a BJP spokesman to the lecture and not speakers with different points of view. Another thorn in the flesh for the students was that the lecture was held on a day when sections of students had backed the trade union bandh to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR).
