Originally a promotional stunt for a play called ''Hubad na Bayani'' (A Naked Hero), the Oblation Run carries political messages since its inception in 1977, with this year's theme calling on voters not to sell their votes in the upcoming Philippine midterm elections on May 12, 2025, as well as the impeachment of Philippines' Vice-President Sara Duterte. The second and third placards read in English, ''Abolish dynasties'' and ''Imee Marcos, get out.''
