The Planned Highway A69 Work Sites After Its Stoppage By Judges Two Months Ago
16 May 2025

In Saix, France, on May 15, 2025, at the A69 construction site, Atosca attempts ecological compensation by transforming meadows into a wetland. After the Administrative Court of Toulouse decides to suspend all works on the A69 highway project between Toulouse and Castres, NGE/Atosca files an appeal against this decision and requests the Court to allow the works to continue during the appeal process. Two senators and two MPs from the Tarn department propose a retroactive law to authorize the building of the A69, aiming to bypass the decision of the Administrative Court of Toulouse. Atosca states that all leveling works have begun and that more than 70% of highway structures are completed. However, the leveling works and highway structures do not match the numbers provided by Atosca. Additionally, several issues affect the work, such as water evacuation and species protection. The main association, 'La Voie est Libre' (meaning 'The Way is Free'), opposes the project and wants the highway construction to stop until all judicial decisions are made. All expropriations for farmers are not resolved. Opponents of the project argue that reprofiling the N126 will suffice for the 6,000 vehicles planned per day and would cost significantly less. The A69 highway is projected to cost EUR512 million (in 2018 euros, excluding inflation) for 54 kilometers. More than 100 protected species and 400 hectares of agricultural fields will be destroyed.

The banner reads 'For a social and ecologic transition together. Let's us think the tomorrow aeronautics'. ' Several collectives (UFCNA, PAPD, CCNAAT, etc) organized a gathering in front of the railway station of Toulouse against aircraft pollution, noise during the night and the endless growth of air transportation during an european week for a ceiling of air movements. They demand a curfew during the night for air transport both freight and passengers such as for Schipol airport (Amsterdam) in the Netherlands. They also speak about the warming gas emitted by aircrafts (as the traffic is poised to double in 2045), the end of subsidies for the planes' fuel, grants for air compagnbies to open new airlines... They cite in example Vueling which opened this week a new line between Toulouse and Barcelona. Toulouse. France. May 12th 2023.

Protesters hold a banner reading 'For an ecologic and social transition together Let's think the future of aviation'. France's labour unions and left parties led a 6th wave of nationwide protests against President Emmanuel Macron's plans to make the French work longer before retirement. More than 60,000 people protested in Toulouses in one of the biggest protest in years. They took to the streets against the planned reform of pension and retirement age to 64 from 62, a move opinion polls show is opposed by a vast majority (93%) of workers already facing a cost-of-living crisis. The retirement age would be raised to 64 years (for 43 years of continued work) and the pensions will be lower specially for women, 'short careers' and low wages people. The COR (Counsel of Pension Guidance), which depends of the Prime minister Office directly, said on September 2022 in its latest report that it sees no needs to reform the pension system as it shares in the French GDP will remain steady at least 2070.
