Policemen stand guard with worker from BTP company eiffagenear an oak occupied by a 'Ecureuil'. In the woods near Cuq-tToulza in the Tarn Departement on the planned A69, opponents to this project nicknamed the woods the 'Serwood forest that three people ('Ecureuils' ie 'squirrels') climbed on oaks to block their cutting for the building site. They were deprived of food, water and sleep by police during more than 36 hours. After the coming of the OPP (Police Practices Observatory), the support of opponents and a phone call to the Prefet by MP Karen Erodi, 'ecureuils' have been resupplied. A near-accident happened when a lumberjack let a tree fall on the rope connecting two 'ecureuils' and he knew what he was doing. The main collective 'La Voie est Libre' (ie 'The Way is Free') want the building of the highway to be stopped until all the justice decisions on the content to be given. All expropiations for farmers aren't cleared. Opponents at this project say that the reprofiling of the N126 will be suffisant for the 6,000 vehicles planned per day and would cost far less money. The A69 highway will cost EUR512 millions (in 2018 euros without the inflation) for 54 kilometers. More than 100 protected species and 400ha of agricultural fields will be destroyed. Cuq-Toulza. Workers from the public works sector discuss before the beginning of the march. France's labour unions led a third wave of nationwide strikes and protests against President Emmanuel Macron's plans to make the French work longer before retirement. More than 40,000 people protested in Toulouses against the planned reform of pension and retirement age to 64 from 62, a move opinion polls show is opposed by a vast majority (93%) of workers already facing a cost-of-living crisis. The retirement age would be raised to 64 years (for 43 years of continued work) and the pensions will be lower specially for women, 'short careers' and low wages people. The COR (Counsel of Pension Guidance), which depends of the Prime minister Office directly, said on September 2022 in its latest report that it sees no needs to reform the pension system as it shares in the French GDP will remain steady at least 2070. Nearly all sectors unions called for this strike and protest : mining and energy, health, schooling sector, transportation, trucks drivers, refining workers, bank workers, etc. Toulouse. An Eiffage group flag on a deserted construction site in Toulouse, France, on April 9th 2020. Since the beginning of the confinement in France on March 16th, construction and public works halt to a grind. In a new quarter of Toulouse, the Cartoucherie eco-quarter, construction came to a standstill. No workers to be seen there and buildings stay as they were on March 16th. The construction and Public Works sector still haven't find a way to circumvent the propagation of the virus and thus the protection of workers on work sites. In France, to date, the SARS-COV-2 virus has killed more than 10000 people and more than 80000 globally. Toulouse. France. April 9th 2020.
