A team of about 20 people - Germans, Bolivians,Bulgarians and from other nationalities started the Abora IV mission in the Varna. The experimental reed boat of the expedition "Abora IV -Argonauts from the Stone Age"sailed from Bulgaria's Black Sea port of Varna on August 16, on a mission to test the hypothesis that there once was an ancient trading route between the Black Sea and the Mediterranean. The goal of the mission is to build a ship entirely made of reed and wood, like one used in Ancient Times. The ship is 14 meters in length, 4 meters wide an weighs 12 tons. She will set sail from Varna, passing through Istanbul, Athens, Crete sailing towards Alexandria, distance approx. 3.000 km. The team that makes Abora consists of reed boat builders, carpenters, archeologists. The one who is responsible for the Abora IV boat is Fermin Limachi Arratia, the last of the reed boat builders, son of the man who built Thor Heyerdahl's boats. Photo by: /Impact Press Group/NurPhoto

In the small Bulgarian town of Beloslav, near the Black sea city of Varna, an international crew is building the boat of our ancestors . Following the steps of one of world’s most renowned adventurers Thor Heyerdahl, Dominique Görlitz - a German experimental archaeologist, known primarily as a "Stone Age sailor" is extending his work now to prove that trade journeys between Egypt and other civilizations on the Black sea cost were possible with Egyptian papyrus sailing vessels. That is why a boat is being build of Bolivian Totora reed. The process is led by two experienced boatbuilders from the Lake Titicaca in Bolivia, part of the famous Aymara family Limach, who have build vessels not only for previous Abora expeditions but also for Thor Heyerdahl. When finished, the crew is about to travel the distance from Varna, passing through Istanbul, Athens, Crete sailing towards Alexandria, distance approx. 3.000 km on that reed boat and prove Herodotous right – that ancient Egyptians built their pyramids with iron tools and that they imported their iron from Black sea civilizations, Beloslav, Bulgaria on June 18, 2019
