Kashmiri Shia Muslim mourners touch a glass case containing a copy of the Quran while shouting slogans during a Muharram procession on the seventh day of Muharram in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on June 23, 2026. Muharram, the first month of the Islamic lunar calendar, marks the beginning of the year 1448 AH and is observed as a period of mourning by Shia Muslims worldwide. Iran's president arrives in Pakistan to meet with officials mediating talks on a permanent end to its conflict with the United States, as discrepancies emerge on what has been agreed upon so far and violence breaks out again in Lebanon. U.S. President Donald Trump insists that Iran has agreed to allow nuclear inspections long into the future, despite statements from Iran that it has not done so. Meanwhile, the funeral of Iran's late Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, is scheduled to begin in Tehran on July 4, with burial in Mashhad on July 9, following ceremonies in Tehran and Qom.

A stray puppy plays with its mother dog as people walk along a road in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on May 21, 2026. India's Supreme Court on May 19, 2026, declines to modify its November 7, 2025, order directing all states and union territories to remove stray dogs from high-footfall public areas such as hospitals, schools, railway stations, and bus terminals. The court also clarifies that stray dogs cannot be reintroduced into these institutional spaces even after being vaccinated and sterilized. India reports millions of dog-bite cases each year, with more than 480,000 cases and at least 42 rabies-related deaths recorded in parts of the country during the first months of 2026 alone. Official data shows that 212,968 dog-bite cases are reported across the Union Territory between 2022 and 2025, with Srinagar district alone accounting for 36,406 cases, the highest among all districts.

The ancient woollen habit traditionally attributed to St. Francis of Assisi is displayed in an illuminated conservation case at the Sanctuary of La Verna, Arezzo, Tuscany, Italy, on April 9, 2026. The coarse dark-brown tunic with a separate pointed hood shows extensive deterioration, tears, and a large fragmentary void at the chest, consistent with centuries of handling and veneration. A black-and-white chessboard marble floor is partially visible surrounding the case. Preserved as a first-class Franciscan relic, the garment is among the most significant devotional objects at La Verna, where Francis spent extended periods of solitary prayer between 1213 and his death in 1226, including the retreat during which he received the stigmata.
