Memorial for Janusz Zurakowski Chief Development Test Pilot of the Avro Arrow RL 201 aircraft in Barry's Bay, Ontario, Canada, September 26, 2010. The statue of Janusz Zurakowski is made of stone. Janusz was the greatest test pilot of his time. He was at the forefront of cutting edge aviation technology. In 1952 he broke the sound barrier in a CF 100 MK4 fighter aircraft-the first of Canadian design to exceed the speed of over 1,000 miles an hour. The R l 201 first flew on March 25, 1958 with Janusz Zurakowski at the controls.
