Perilous Condition Of Nepal Highway Continues One Week After Heavy Downpour In 2025

A general view of the flooded plains in Chaukidanda along the BP Highway in Nepal, on October 9, 2025, shows the area ravaged by flood and landslide again following heavy downpour. Various sections of the BP Highway, built with Japanese assistance, are swept by floods of 2024. Within weeks since the disaster, diversions are set up to bring the highway back into operation. The local authorities, in coordination with the central government, are again setting up diversions, but people are forced to cling onto the rocks to get across the road section and catch a bus to continue their journey. One week since the heavy rain batters the Himalayan Nation, at least nine major highways connecting various parts of the country remain completely obstructed, according to the latest update from Nepal Police. As a result, many who leave Kathmandu Valley for their village homes for the Dashain festival face difficulties in returning to their workplace and temporary residence.
