King Alfred's Cakes (Daldinia concentrica), also known as cramp balls or coal fungus, is an ancient firelighting fungus of the Hypoxylaceae family. This fungus looks like a hard, roundish lump of coal stuck to dead and decaying wood. The fruit of this fungus is hemispherical, with a hard, friable, shiny black fruiting body 2 to 7 centimeters wide. Daldinia concentrica is a useful tinder for starting fires. It is best when it is completely dry and black, and can be lit with flint and steel. It burns slowly, like charcoal, and produces a strong smoke, used in cooking at a campfire. In traditional African medicine, Daldinia concentrica is used to treat many diseases. In some regions of Ivory Coast, it is also used as a contraceptive agent. King Alfred's Cakes (Daldinia concentrica) fungus is on a dead tree in Tehatta, West Bengal, India, on October 17, 2024.

Albugo candida, known as white rust or white blister rust, is currently infecting Brassicaceae species as an obligate plant pathogen in the family Albuginaceae. This white fungus-like organism is attacking various crucifers, often causing serious deformities and damage to the plants. The visual signs include a crusty white coating, which consists of thousands of spore capsules that are bursting through the plant's epidermis. This infection may lead to thickening and distortion of the stem, leaves, and fruits. Albugo candida has a cosmopolitan distribution and is present in many countries where cruciferous crops are grown, including Europe, Asia, Africa, Australasia, and the Americas. The pathogen is infecting plants in the Brassicaceae family at various growth stages, such as the seedling stage, the growing stage, the flowering stage, and the fruiting stage. It has been recorded on almost all varieties and species of the rapeseed-mustard group of crops as well as many wild brassicas. A mustard seed is drying up due to the Albugo candida pathogen in Kaliganj, West Bengal, India, on January 17, 2024.

A pitaya or pitahaya known as ''dragon fruit'' and ''strawberry pear'' is a fruit with leather-like skin and scaly spikes on the fruit exterior of several different cactus species indigenous of the genus Selenicereus (formerly Hylocereus). Plants can begin flowering in as little as six to eight months, although container-grown plants may take up to two years to bear fruit. It is very profitable for farming, once the plant is mature, could see four to six fruiting cycles a year from a plant that is capable of bearing fruit for 20 to 30 years. The biggest enemy of this plant is Fungus (Colletotrichum) and Bacteria (Xanthomonas and Erwinia) attack. Moreover, farmers are advised to prune and destroy the infected plant parts. This dragon fruit cultivation photo was taken at Nabin Nagar, West Bengal, India on 15/09/2023.
