Stone figures at the Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple complex (Arulmigu Meenakshi Sundareshwarar Temple) located in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. The temple is at the center of the ancient temple city of Madurai mentioned in the Tamil Sangam literature, with the goddess temple mentioned in 6th-century-CE texts. Madurai Meenakshi Sundareswarar temple was built by King Kulasekara Pandya (1190-1216 CE). He built the main Portions of the three-storied gopura (tower) at the entrance of Sundareswarar Shrine and the central portion of the Goddess Meenakshi Shrine are some of the earliest surviving parts of the temple.
