A fire broke out inside an AC coach of a train in Kolkata on December 27, 2018. As per reports, the incident took place when the train was running between Rabindra Sadan and Maidan metro stations. Earlier reports had suggested that the fire broke out on the track. The smoke was detected in the Dum Dum-bound metro train soon after it left the Maidan station. Kolkata Metro authorities said the fire was doused by the West Bengal Fire Service and Kolkata Police Disaster Management group and all the passengers on the affected train were rescued by 6 pm. The fire was noticed at around 5 pm inside a tunnel, Metro authorities said, asking the people not to panic. It further said services had been curtailed on the network due to the fire incident.There are no casualties. 43 people have been injured,all have been taken to the SSKM and Medical College hospital admitted. It was reported that many passengers fell sick due to the fire and some of them even fainted. Some of the passengers tried to break open window panes. In the process, some of them suffered injuries. A total of 43 passengers were taken to a nearby hospital for medical care. Many among them were senior citizens. Kolkata Police reportedly asked people to avoid JL Nehru Road, Central Avenue and Theatre Road. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Many users of the Kolkata Metro complained about delayed action from the authorities. Some said services were also delayed after the fire incident.
