EDMONTON, CANADA - DECEMBER 28: Children and grandchildren of Edmonton's Atonement Home survivors at a flash rally by the demolition site of the former Franciscan Sisters Benevolent Society premises, on December 28, 2024, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. From the 1870s to 1996, over 150,000 Indigenous children in Canada were forcibly placed in residential schools, where many faced abuse, cultural suppression, and high mortality rates-an atrocity the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in 2015 called 'cultural genocide.'

EDMONTON, CANADA - APRIL 7: Members of the Memory Keepers Association, comprised of survivors of the Rwandan genocide along with their families and supporters, unite at Churchill Square for a solemn commemorative rally. Together, they mark the 30th anniversary of the Tutsi genocide in Rwanda, honoring its victims with reverence and solidarity, on April 7, 2024, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The 1994 Rwandan genocide saw mass killings of Tutsis by armed Hutu militias. Despite global shock, there was no intervention.
