A firefly (Lampyridae) is being seen on a tree leaf in Ratnapura, Sri Lanka, on April 11, 2024. The Lampyridae, a family of elateroid beetles with over 2,000 described species, are known for their ability to emit light. These soft-bodied beetles, often referred to as fireflies, lightning bugs, or glowworms, are producing light conspicuously, mainly during twilight, to attract mates.
