A participant places freshly made kimchi into a container at the 2025 Pyeongchang Highland Kimchi Festival experience zone at Jinbu Civic Sports Park in Pyeongchang County, South Korea, on November 7, 2025. For 68,000 won, visitors make and take home 10 kilograms of kimchi, with festival assistants guiding those unfamiliar with the process. Launched in 2014, the festival promotes the quality of Pyeongchang's highland cabbage, preserves the UNESCO-listed kimjang tradition, and supports local farmers. Residents actively participate, creating jobs, and this year the event reaches record attendance with 60,000 visitors and 3 billion won in revenue. Kimjang, held in late autumn, is a traditional Korean practice of preparing large quantities of kimchi for winter and embodies a communal culture where neighbors share labor and strengthen social bonds.
