Soya Chunks Curry, also known as Meal Maker Curry, is a delicious Indian dish made with soya nuggets, spices, onions, tomatoes, and herbs. Soya chunks are textured vegetable protein made from defatted soya flour, after extracting soya bean oil. Also known as Nutri Nuggets, Meal Makers, Soya Nuggets, and Soya Vadi, these are a kind of low-cost mock meat immensely popular in India. They are considered healthy, protein-rich, and a good alternative for those who want to refrain from eating meat. This food is providing protein even among people living below the poverty line and is widely used in government schools in India. Soya chunks are being used in various dishes like curries, pulao, fried rice, biryani, appetizers, and stir-fry dishes. However, since these are processed, it is advisable to eat them in moderation. Also, using organic soya chunks or at least non-GMO is highly recommended. Serve it over rice, pulao, jeera rice, or with roti, paratha, or naan; it simply tastes the best with anything. Here, soya chunks curry is being cooked in Tehatta, West Bengal, India, on July 15, 2024.
