Rescuers in Indian-administered Kashmir use shovels and earthmovers on Saturday to search for survivors trapped under boulders and debris after sudden floods, triggered by heavy rains, kill at least 60 people, leave 200 others missing, and displace hundreds. Gushing mudslides and floodwaters inundate the mountain village of Chasoti, sweeping away pilgrims who gather for lunch before trekking uphill to a popular religious site. It is the second such disaster to strike the Himalayas in a little over a week.

Shoes covered with mud are being seen after a cloudburst near Cherwan Padabal area in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district, some 42 kilometers from Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on August 04, 2024. The strategic Srinagar-Leh National Highway that connects Kashmir with cold desert Ladakh is being closed due to landslides resulting from a cloudburst. The government officials are saying that the rescue teams have reached the spot and efforts are ongoing to clear the debris.
