The disaster killed 14 people and displaced 40,000 others, with damages reaching $2.7 billion. In the reign of Indonesia President Joko Widodo, most Lapindo victims already received the compensation. They warn the government to reject the new drilling plan of Lapindo Brantas Inc near this area during the tenth anniversary of the mudflow eruption.
