With the severe financial crisis that affects the state of Rio de Janeiro, the federal government demanded that the State privatize CEDAE and create austerity measures that will impact the wages and benefits of civil servants. The headquarters of CEDAE are located a few meters from the Sambodromo, the main tourist attraction of the city during the Carnival, some demonstrators damaged bars and visual signs that had been installed for the carnival.
