In Oswiecim, Poland, on January 27, 2025, the President of Poland, Andrzej Duda, speaks at block 11 of the former Auschwitz I camp during the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp. Auschwitz is a German Nazi concentration and extermination camp and remains the most recognizable symbol of the Holocaust. Jews from across Europe are murdered there, along with Poles, Roma, Sinti, and Soviet prisoners of war. On January 27, 1945, the Red Army enters the camp, liberating its prisoners. Delegations from over 50 countries gather to mark the 80th anniversary of its liberation.
