House Explosion In Buena, New Jersey Thursday Leaves Crews Searching For Survivors Friday

Two people are dead and another two remain missing after a house exploded in Buena, New Jersey, United States on Thursday, August 3, 2023 in the area of Southwest Boulevard according to police. Authorities are continuing to search for the missing and are investigating the incident on August 4, 2023. A young child and a teenager suffered burn injuries in the explosion, police said. Police responded to reports of a house fire around 10:35 a.m. Thursday in the South Jersey town of Buena. The incident was confirmed to have been an explosion. A 1-year-old girl was flown to the hospital in critical condition, a 16-year-old girl was also flown to the hospital and is in stable condition. Four other people are believed to have been in the house at the time of the explosion, a 2.5-year-old boy, a 3.5-year-old girl, a 52-year-old man and a 73-year-old man. Two bodies have been recovered from the debris, though authorities are unable to determine their ages, genders or races. The investigation continues. The incident is being treated as a criminal investigation.
