Orthomorpha coarctata plays a significant role in soil nutrition by composting waste and is particularly abundant from June to September, when males and females often pair for mating. In one observed mating ritual in Tehatta, West Bengal, India, on September 8, 2024, a male approached a female from behind and gradually mounted her back to initiate the mating process. Orthomorpha coarctata, commonly known as the long-flange millipede, is a widely introduced species of polydesmidan millipede from the family Paradoxosomatidae. Although presumed native to Southeast Asia, this species has been transported by humans to tropical and subtropical areas around the world, including the Hawaiian Islands, the West Indies, the Gulf Coast of North America, and the Galápagos Islands.
