As the primary checkpoint for travelers venturing into the high-altitude Silk Route, visitors must acquire Inner Line Permits (ILP) from the local police station (SDPO office) before proceeding to restricted border areas. Traditionally, Rongli was one of the oldest markets on the trade route connecting Kalimpong to Tibet, making it a significant stop for both local traders and tourists. Numerous tourist vehicles are parked here, and visitors are busy making purchases before heading further up the hills. Local residents of Sikkim can also be seen strolling along the road adorned with plants in their traditional attire, and dogs are roaming around.
