National Museum officials carefully remove the idol of Goddess Mahagauri Parvati from its display area inside the Chhauni National Museum in Kathmandu, Nepal, on April 18, 2026. The idol is being prepared for relocation to its original shrine in Maru, Kathmandu. The sacred sculpture is escorted with due reverence as part of the formal handover process involving museum and cultural heritage authorities, marking its final exit from the museum collection after years of preservation. The reestablishment ceremony of the repatriated idol takes place at Maru Tole on World Heritage Day on April 18, 2026, in Kathmandu, Nepal, a day observed annually to promote the preservation of cultural heritage. The sculpture, returned to Nepal in 1996 after being stolen and taken to the United Kingdom, had been preserved at the Chhauni National Museum before its reinstatement.
