Members of the NYPD Crime Scene Unit work at the scene where ride-share driver Issa Mbolo-Isac is murdered in a shooting in the area of Morris Avenue in Bronx, New York, United States, on January 1, 2026. On Thursday morning at approximately 0654 hours, police respond to a 911 call of a male shot in the vicinity of Morris Avenue and Cross Bronx Expressway, within the confines of the 46 Precinct. Upon arrival, officers observe a 55-year-old male identified as Issa Mbolo-Isac with a gunshot wound to the head. EMS responds and pronounces the victim dead on the scene. There are no arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing. The New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers says a Bronx livery driver is fatally shot in the head in Tremont on New Year's Day. The NYSFTD identifies the victim as Issa Isac and offers a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. ''This seems to have started as a minor fender bender. Two men try to pull Issa Isac out of his car, and when Issa speeds off to get away, the two men open fire,'' says Fernando Mateo, spokesman for NYSFTD.

Priests paint the idol of Seto Machhindranath (L) and White Tara (R) at Janabahal (Kel Tole) in Kathmandu, Nepal, on January 1, 2026, in the days following the annual religious holy bath ritual. The painting work is part of preparations after the ritual cleansing, after which the deity is reinstalled at the temple through traditional rites. Seto Machhindranath, also revered as Avalokiteshwor or Karunamaya, is regarded as the god of rain and is worshipped by both Hindus and Buddhists, who pray for timely rainfall to prevent drought during the rice cultivation season. The Seto Machhindranath jatra is scheduled to take place in the coming months.
