The Black-hooded Oriole (Oriolus xanthornus) is a member of the oriole family of passerine birds, known for their medium-sized, striking yellow plumage with a black hood. This bird is a resident breeder in the tropical wooded gardens and open forests of southern Asia, ranging from India and Sri Lanka east to Indonesia. The bird builds its nest in a tree and typically contains two eggs. Its diet consists of insects and fruit, especially figs, which are found in the tree canopies where they spend much of their time. The song of this bird is rich, fluty, and mellow, while its calls include raspy, nasal notes that can sound like a croak. A Black-hooded Oriole was observed sitting on a tree in a forest at Tehatta, West Bengal, India, on May 20, 2024.
