WAKAYAMA, JAPAN - JUNE 11: A detailed top-down view shows rows of freshly caught golden threadfin bream (Nemipterus virgatus) neatly arranged on crushed ice inside styrofoam boxes labeled with 500-yen price tags at a dockside market stall along Saikazaki Fishing Harbor on June 11, 2026, in Wakayama City, Japan. Celebrated widely as 'The Amalfi of Japan' due to its tightly clustered houses cascading down steep coastal cliffs, the historic port serves as a focal point for a close-knit community highly regarded for its unique 'boat-to-table' direct sales, where local residents and travelers negotiate directly with captains to purchase fresh catches right off the decks when the fleet returns.

An aerial view from a LOT Polish Airlines Embraer E195-E2 plane approaching Warsaw shows dense suburban row-house estates around Nowa Iwiczna, Mysiadlo, and Zgorzala in Lesznowola municipality, Poland, on May 22, 2026. The compact housing developments on former agricultural land illustrate a suburban sprawl pattern often described in Poland as lanowa housing, with long rows of single-family and terraced houses built in villages south of Warsaw. Such development can affect local roads, utilities, and public infrastructure in areas not originally planned for dense residential use.

A man rows a boat loaded with vegetables through the algae-covered, polluted waters of Dal Lake in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on June 5, 2026, during World Environment Day. World Environment Day is observed on June 5 each year to raise awareness and encourage action for environmental protection, with the 2026 theme being ''Climate Action'' (NowForClimate). According to the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, about 74% of Kashmir's lakes and water bodies have either disappeared or become smaller. Of 697 water bodies studied, 315 had vanished and 203 had reduced in size, resulting in a loss of about 2,851 hectares since 1967. Climate change and encroachment are among the main causes. Glaciers in the Kashmir Himalayas have been shrinking due to rising temperatures, less snowfall, and changing weather patterns. Studies indicate that some glaciers, such as the Thajiwas Glacier in Sonamarg, have lost most of their ice, and the region may have lost roughly a quarter to a third of its glacier cover over the past 60 years.
