People wave China's flags as they welcome China's President Xi Jinping going to the Airport following the G20 Leaders Summit in Bali, Indonesia on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2022. The G20 meeting in Bali signalled Xi Jinping’s emergence from three years of self-imposed pandemic isolation, with the French president, Emmanuel Macron, and Australian prime minister, Anthony Albanese, among those keen to secure a chat and photo opportunity with the Chinese leader. Despite condemnation of Chinese human rights abuses and anxiety over its intentions in the Taiwan Strait, the largely positive tone set by Xi’s bilateral with US president Joe Biden continued until the end of the summit.

Motorcyclists try to pass a road block in Jakarta on 27 July 2021. Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan on Tuesday said the public activity restriction imposed for the past weeks have shown positive results. As of Monday, July 26, Anies Baswedan announced that the active cases in the capital city have reduced to 64,000. On July 16, the city logged 113,000 active cases during the peak of the oxygen crisis. Around 29,000 Jakartans until today, July 27, are still undergoing coronavirus self-isolation, 8,600 are treated in hospitals, 1,400 are under intensive care unit (ICU) care, and 3,900 people are isolated at the Wisma Atlet emergency hospital. He claimed this drop was consistent with the dropping trend across a number of other parameters, such as the positivity rate that has dropped from 45 percent to the current 25 percent. The number of daily burials under the Covid-19 health protocol have also been reduced from 350 to 200.
