The family Scarabaeidae, as currently defined, consists of over 35,000 species of beetles worldwide. They are often called scarabs or scarab beetles. Anomala bengalensis is a species of scarab beetle in the Rutelidae family that undergoes complete metamorphosis, including a pupal stage. It was first described by Blanchard in 1850. Anomala bengalensis is a pest that consumes the roots of grasses, making it a significant concern for agricultural, horticultural, and silvicultural crops. This photo was taken in Tehatta, West Bengal, India, on April 10, 2024.
