Taro (Colocasia Esculenta) Is An Aroid Species Native To Mainland Southeast Asia, Now Widely Cultivated In Tropical And Temperate Regions Globally. Known As Arvi Or Kochu, It Is A High-value Root Crop In West Bengal, Especially In The 24-Paraganas And Nadia Districts. Taro Prefers Well-drained, Fertile Soil And Can Also Grow In Waterlogged Areas. The Young Leaves Are Used In Stews And Curries, While The Stalks Are Added To Stir-fries And Soups. Planting Occurs In February-March And June-July, With A Harvest After 8-10 Months. Taro Is A Nutritious Root Vegetable, Rich In Complex Carbohydrates, Dietary Fiber, And Minerals Like Potassium, Magnesium, And Copper, Containing 70-80% Starch. A Farmer Carefully Is Cut Underground Corm (starchy Root/tuber) Of Taro Plant With Great Effort, Cleans And Cuts Them, And Then Uses Them To Boil With Rice In Woodburn Stove At Tehatta, West Bengal; India On On October 20, 2025.
