A student is reacting while holding a cardboard sign that reads 'SNU stinks' in Toulouse, France, on February 1, 2024. SNU refers to the Universal National Service, which is a mandatory military service required to continue studies or advance in obtaining a driving license. Teachers, professors, and students are on strike and have taken to the streets to protest against the new Minister of National Education, Amelie Oudea-Castera, and the insufficient resources for public schools. The minister is embroiled in scandals, including enrolling her children in a private Catholic school that separates students by gender and allowing one of her children to bypass the mandatory 'Parcours Sup' process for admission to schools, colleges, or universities. Protesters are calling for her resignation, as Amelie Oudea-Castera has also authorized the funding of the private Stanislas school, where her children attend, with public money.

A protester holds a cardboard 'The A69 stinks as asszes, let's hange position'. Nearly 10 000 people participated to a week end of action called 'Ramdam sur le Macadam' in the Tarn department against the decried highway A69 between Toulouse and Castres. Several corteges took place and went to different places. Police tried at several moments to blck the access to the camp at protestors even during the cortege. Several political parties, unions, ngos called to this week-end of protest. The main assocation 'La Voie est Libre' (ie 'The Way is Free'), opponents and Thomas Brail want the building of the highway to be stopped until all the justice decisions on the content to be given. All expropiations for farmers aren't cleared. Opponents at this project say that the reprofiling of the N126 will be suffisant for the 6,000 vehicles planned per day and would cost far less money. The A69 highway will cost EUR512 millions (in 2018 euros without the inflation) for 54 kilometers. More than 100 protected species and 400ha of agricultural fields will be destroyed. Saix. Tarn. Stickers at the bottom read 'here it stinks oil'. Greenpeace Toulouse organized a play in the center to raise awareness about the strategy of influence of the French oil major TotaEnergie (ex Total). TotalEnergie, they said, is influencing people about oil and fossil fuels as TotalEnergie subsidizes museums (Institut du Monde Arabe pe example), universities (such as HEC ) and so on. The play is to guess in which institutions TotalEnegie gives money. Greenpeace organized this play as fossil fuel industry gets subsidies of $11m a minute (the production and burning of coal, oil and gas was subsidised by $5.9tn in 2020) according to analysis by the International Monetary Fund on October 6th 2021.
