Customers express dissatisfaction with the extended wait times and the decreasing ease of quickly purchasing even the cheapest items. According to Statistics Canada, rates of shoplifting increase by 31% in 2022 compared to 2021. The Retail Council of Canada (RCC) states that some of its members report a 300% increase in thefts since 2020, estimating the losses at $5 billion a year.
